Austenland to be a Film

Reblogged from AustenBlog:

Well, they snuck this one by us! Several Alert Janeites wrote to let us know that Shannon Hale's book Austenland will be adapted into a film, which begins shooting this week. This is apparently not a drill. The film will be directed by Jerusha Hess (who wrote the screenplay for Napoleon Dynamite and co-wrote this screenplay with Hale) and the cast includes Keri Russell, JJ Feild, Bret McKenzie (

Thoughts?

I’m pretty excited. I, however, am very much an Austen fan. It looks pretty interesting, though. Hope it doesn’t end up being too fluffy or a remake of Clueless.

Quiz: Jane Austen or Steve Austin?

I’m sure in some skewed universe Jane Austen and Steve “Stone Cold” Austin have something in common. Who knows? Maybe wrestlers enjoy tea and needlepoint or Jane Austen occupied her free time by smashing chairs on people’s heads, and trash-talking.

What’s for sure, though is that both of these people had/have a high tolerance for uncomfortable outfits…

Authorama: Jane Austen

Jane Austen is one of the most beloved authors among the female population. As such, there is just too much out there on her life to even attempt to put it on my dinky little blog. Strangely, much of that information is composed of musings on her life. We know concrete things. Her name, her birthdate, her siblings’ names, etc.

But what of her thoughts? Her loves?

Since Jane Austen’s her sister and closest confidante, Cassandra, took it upon herself to destroy Austen’s letters we must speculate that she could have been in love with Tom Lefroy and that she couldn’t marry him due to her lack of fortune. But besides that there’s not much more. Thus, I will limit myself to things that I can verify….like the following

Review: Northanger Crappy?

Northanger Abbey

Random House UK, 2008

Pages: 288

Reading Time: 3 days

Deya’s Tagline: It was just my imagination running away with me.

Cover: I absolutely adore Vintage Classics’ interpretation of a Jane Austen cover. Usually, publishing houses find Regency painting of a pretty, but distressed girl to put on the cover or some “pretty wilderness” to feature in a baroque frame. I found this approach very fresh and to the point. What’s the book about? Just look at the cover.

Janeites: Rest Easy. I come in peace.

Is it terrible that…?

I’m kind of excited about this new movie coming out?

As you may have noticed I’m a bit of an Austenite. While browsing for a gift for a friend of mine, I ran across a little tidbit on a website. Apparently, Sense and Sensbility is getting remade but Latino style! The movie, which was originally Sense and Sensibilidad (now From Prada to Nada) is about two spoiled Latina girls (a law student and a free spirit) whose dad loses everything. As a result, the girls have to go live in the Barrio with their aunt and adjust to their new life.

As a Latina and a mushy Austen fan I am just way excited. While reading Jane Austen I always try to put myself in the position of the protagonists and find that although we are centuries apart and my family is Mexican, there is some amount of mirroring. I mean, my family can be just as conservative and obsessed with marriage as the Brits were in the Regency Era. A few other similarities:
